Swartz Creek Cross Country Meet Summary
Meet: Greater Flint

After a week of good workouts and
good rest the Dragons were hoping to send a message to the other
Big 9 schools that they weren't dead yet. Hosting the Greater
Flint meet added an extra incentive. The goal was to get out well
and have positions 3-7 run together in the first mile.
With plan in hand, Creek started the race well. At the mile mark,
Eric and Nick were near the front, knowing that the real race
would begin and end with the second mile. Travis and Jory lead
the rest of the team thru the mile in 5:40. The "pack"
had already begun to split up, but the plan had worked - the team
was in position to make something happen.
In mile two, Travis began to fade, but Green and Jon were still
moving well. Mike was coming on strong as well. Up front, Nick
pulled away with the leaders as Schoener of Grand Blanc began to
make his move. Eric was also running near the front. At the two
mile mark, the team appeared to be in position to challenge a few
league rivals.
A strong finish in the third mile had nearly everyone feeling
better. All but Travis ran season bests with Mr. Hansen running
his 2nd best on the season. Having done the work, the team would
now wait for the scores.
As team scores were posted, the Dragons lost a little wind from
their sails. Raw scores indicated that we'd just lost out to both
Clio and Flushing. Later, official scoring (throwing out
incomplete teams) would reveal the closest of finishes with Clio
at 206, Creek at 207, and Flushing at 208, leaving us 4th of 6 in
our division. Armed with this good news, the team will have to
put it all together next Wednesday in our bid for one more
victory in the Big 9 before the Championship meet.
